Our Beautiful World- Woodlands

I decided to join the picture challenge over at Our Beautiful World.  The word of the week is

Woodlands

Truthfully, I decided to join in the fun because the woodlands here in Arizona- dry old Arizona- are much different than the lush greenery that I was used to growing up in Southeastern Minnesota.  I grew up in farmland, but we had the woods outside our elementary school and the woods out behind the Foster's house.  There were little stands of trees that we considered "woodlands".  These lush, green, overgrown areas were a land of fun for pre-teenagers to run around in both day and night.

Arizona is somewhat different.  Notice, even our elk look dry and brittle (though they are not!).

When I first moved to Arizona from the lush greenery of the Midwest farming belt, I thought Arizona was ugly.  Shades of green (my favorite color) were much more appealing than shades of brown and tan.  However, over the intervening 30 years (it's really that long ago folks...) I've re-tuned my measure of beautiful.  These woods have beauty that is only theirs and so now I can look at these very different photos and still see Our Beautiful World, even here.

Show us a picture of your part of this beautiful world or just stop by to marvel at the pictures contributed from around the world.  Join the word prompt challenge at:

  1. Super cool woodland picture from Arizona, like you, I do miss the green in the east coast but I do think that the desert has a lot of colors too, they are just different! Thanks for joining us this week at Our Beautiful World, also fun to have you here!

  2. I can't quite tell if that is a moose or not. I live in New England and really don't think I would like living anywhere else. But, I would like to visit your part of the world.

  3. For me, an unusual sight, your photos.
Yes, I think we often need a long time to become familiar and see the specific beauty that there is anywhere else in the world.
    Thanks for sharing :-)

  6. Hi Andie, oh so have to agree with you...I love green but it does come in a lot of different shades, so then when you look closer you can glory in all that live in our "bush" - as we call it here in Australia. Thanks for sharing your Elk with Our Beautiful World Robyn

  7. Wonderful photos. Yes I agree with you about areas being different but still beautiful. The Australian bush doesn't have a lush green and is rugged but I think it is very beautiful

  9. Beautiful post Andie! So wonderful the photos of the elk, great shots. We went on a vacation to your area (Arizona, Utah etc) and I was in awe with the dry and rocky wilderness there. So different from where I live. (Flat green pasture land everywhere.)
