A Very Festive 70th Wedding Anniversary Party

On March 6th, I had the distinct pleasure of celebrating my granparents 70th wedding anniversary.  I made a banner for the cake table and decided to use the banner in the pages of a pocket album for my grandmother to store the photos of the day.  This is a picture HEAVY post.  I'd apologize, but these are dear treasures to me and I couldn't help but share.  Ack - that is becoming a refrain with me this week!

The daughter of a dear friend of mine designed the invitation (shown on the left page here) and also helped with the layout of the photo collage (shown on the right page here).  They turned out so perfectly, I am grateful to Emily for her assistance in making this day special.

I made ten of the silver glittered "70th" to set on the tables.  I cut out 20 of them and glued the top half together, bending the back version out to act as a "kickstand".  They worked lovely on the tables with some fresh cut flowers and now one of them is stored here as a keepsake.

I also used the image from the invitation to make some tailored napkins for our party.  I think it worked out perfectly with the color scheme.

The book is a pocket album book from Hobby Lobby.  I selected a set of pocket cards to embellish some of the pages, but the idea is that my grandma can simply slide photos in some of the pages and others are more traditional type scrapbook layout pages.

I've had these clear acetate embellishments for years and decided they fit the theme of this book.  Oh my, but they worked perfectly here.

My grandma is very old fashioned.  As such, I couldn't help but add some pearl swirls....

Plus, no party is complete without a party favor. However, I was in Denver, Colorado which is far away from my scrapbox.  I found this idea online and whipped these babies up the day before the party.  The tiny boxes of matches were purchased from the grocery store (10 for 89 cents! woo hoo!) and I printed the framed sentiment onto some kraft paper using my granparent's computer.  I had the presence of mind to bring my paper trimmer which I used to cut the kraft paper and fold around one side of the box of matches, leaving one strike side open.  Some white flowers from a pack out of Hobby Lobby and these favors practically made themselves.

I think they were perfect.  The price was right, the timing was right and the idea was a good match!

We made the paper - I was even featured with a comment.  If you'd like to see photos and read a short bit about it, click here.

Some More Coloring - This Time Copics

Brandy and here coloring here- this time utilizing her Gorjuss Getaway stamp.  Although the coloring is incomplete on this project, the work is so stunning I just had to share with you.  I am mesmerized by the horse's mane and the details of markings on his rump.  They both are very realistic to me.  As such, I couldn't help myself and shared this even though it's not quite done.

I hope this inspires you to give some of your coloring projects a try and share with us in blogland.  Even this partially completed projects is inspiring to me.

Last Group of Layouts from the Play All Day

These last layouts are pages completed during previous scrapbook conventions, LSS scrapbook evenings and Embellish It Play All Day events over the past decade.  Yes, I didn't stutter - some of these pages are well over 10 years old.  I'd, shamefully, allowed them to accumulate in the Scrapbook and never taken the time to put pictures on them.

During the Play All Day event in February, I ended that nonsense.  I took the time to cut and paste the photos into the pages.  Sorry for the overly photo heavy post, but I'm proud of my accomplishment and just had to share with you all here.

Part of the charm is the combination of photos from baby to teenager.  Awwww.....

None of these will represent my very best work, but it does represent work done.  For that I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to set aside a Saturday and focus on these pages.  They are all resting comfortably in a scrapbook waiting for the rest of the pages to join.  I wonder how long that will take ?!!?

More Layouts from the Play All Day

These layouts represent more pages from Embellish It kits that I bought at the Play All Day event Brandy and I attended in February.

The kits often come with an assortment of embellishments so that you can change the layout and sentiments to match your project.  In this case, I used much of the same as the kit example, but swapped out for a more masculine sentiment on the right side.

I also tried to select photos from the pile I was working with (an assortment of my son, Timothy, throughout his school years!) that worked well with the color schemes or theme of the layout.  Some worked better than others.

However, the biggest theme of the day was to get those photos scrapbooked.  In these cases, I built the layouts around the photos as I purchased the kits at the Play All Day event.

I'm enjoying getting some projects done.  I will tell you that these pages are, even now, resting comfortably in a scrapbook downstairs.  I have more photos to work, but the scrapbook has the finished pages inserted.  Yay!

Embellish It! Play All Day - Mes

This post is coming a month late.  I couldn't even tell you why it took so long to get these layouts photographed, edited and posted.  It simply doesn't express the amount of joy and fun it was to attend Embellish It's Play All Day here in Mesa at the end of February.  It doesn't look like there are any other days currently scheduled in 2016, but if they open up I'd highly recommend going.

This day is spent at the local convention center/hotel in a conference room at a table with about 4-6 other attendees.  Shelby brings some of her kits for sale so that you can shop or simply scrap your own projects.  These layouts were from the 2 "classes" that are held throughout the day.  The class kits come with a double page layout that
is simple to complete and generates a wonderful finished product.  This year I decided to scrap the photos I printed for my son's high school graduation party last year.  The photos represent all school ages and I mixed them up, selecting the photos for the layout rather than so that the photos tell a story.  Still, they tell the story, just in their own way.

The page on the right is a waterfall which allows for 8 different photos to be captured on that one page.  Love it!

How about you?  Any long needing to post photos just sitting around to be posted.  Join me this week as I try to catch up.  I've got other layouts from the day that need to be edited and posted.  I'll string them out this week so you don't get bored.

Come on, join the fun and get something posted!
